College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado provides excellence in teacher education, counseling, technology and psychology, at the undergraduate and graduate level. In science, words often are given very specific meanings that are different from and often more restrictive than their everyday usage. A few such cases are important to discuss before we proceed further in this report. It is also important for teachers to be aware of the confusion that can arise from these multiple usages of familiar words, clarifying the specific scientific usage when needed.
