The Australian Computing Academy (ACA) at the University of Sydney is delivering this initiative, which includes professional learning workshops for primary and secondary teachers across Australia. To assist students to make informed choices about their study, the Sydney School of Education and Social Work has identified inherent requirements for coursework-award courses in Secondary Education. In order to successfully complete such a course, students must possess these qualities and skills (PDF). Fully certified mathematics and science teachers were less prevalent in high-minority and high-poverty schools when compared with schools with students from higher-income families. For example, in 2011, 88% of mathematics teachers in high-poverty schools were fully certified, compared with 95% of those in low-poverty schools.
