College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado provides excellence in teacher education, counseling, technology and psychology, at the undergraduate and graduate level. Lillian C. McDermott, Professor of Physics at the UW and recipient of the 2014 University Faculty Lecture Award speaks at the annual University Faculty Lecture, February 19, 2015 at UW’s Kane Hall. The Physics Education Group in the UW Department of Physics has been conducting research in physics education since the 1970s. The goal is to identify and address the intellectual challenges that physics presents to university students, including prospective and practicing K-12 teachers. The results guide development of research-based and research-validated instructional materials to improve conceptual understanding and reasoning ability from kindergarten through graduate school. A commentary on the termination of the anti-nepotism policy at UW in 1972 precedes a few examples of our group’s research and a summary of our progress.… Read more
The Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) Program funds innovative pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and Informal Science Education (ISE) educational projects. Although inquiry and the scientific method are integral to science education and practice, every decision we make is based on these processes. Natural human curiosity and necessity lead to asking questions (What is the problem?), constructing a hypothesis (How do I solve it?), testing it with evidence and evaluating the result (Did the solution work?), and making future decisions based on that result.
The practice of science education has been increasingly informed by research into science teaching and learning. Research in science education relies on a wide variety of methodologies, borrowed from many branches of science and engineering such as computer science, cognitive science, cognitive psychology and anthropology. Science education research aims to define or characterize what constitutes learning in science and how … Read more
Jotse is an international Journal aiming at publishing interdisciplinary research within the university education framework and it is especially focused on the fields of Technology and Science. The Department’s Race to the Top-District program supports educators in providing students with more personalized learning—in which the pace of and approach to instruction are uniquely tailored to meet students’ individual needs and interests—often supported by innovative technologies. STEM teachers across the country also are receiving resources, support, training, and development through programs like Investing in Innovation (i3), the Teacher Incentive Fund , the Math and Science Partnerships program, Teachers for a Competitive Tomorrow , and the Teacher Quality Partnerships program.

This programme aims to give students the academic and practical skills they need to develop a critical understanding of the role of science education, research and communication in society. Education science is closely related to pedagogy, which is the process of teaching. More specifically, however, education science is considered to be the study of improving the teaching process. The field of education science can include the examination and research of different teaching methods and how groups of students receive these methods, as well as the process of improving teaching methodologies.
