The Science Education MA aims to reflect contemporary theory in all aspects of practice in science education: international, formal and informal. To assist students to make informed choices about their study, the Sydney School of Education and Social Work has identified inherent requirements for coursework-award courses in Secondary Education. In order to successfully complete such a course, students must possess these qualities and skills (PDF). Fully certified mathematics and science teachers were less prevalent in high-minority and high-poverty schools when compared with schools with students from higher-income families. For example, in 2011, 88% of mathematics teachers in high-poverty schools were fully certified, compared with 95% of those in low-poverty schools.

Discovery Centre Bendigo - focuses on science and technology and offers assistance to teachers in excursion planning and curriculum related workshops. We know that a young person’s love for science often starts in primary school. However, other subjects have been prioritised over science in the teaching curriculum over recent years.

A persistent problem has been the lack of articulation between pre-and in-service science teacher education. NSF support for in-service teacher education from 1960 to 1975 focused on updating science preparation in an attempt to narrow the gap. In fact, NSF efforts often tended to deepen the problem. The NSF assumed that science teachers needed only more and better science backgrounds and the NSF model was simply one of giving teachers current science information, which they were to transmit directly to their students. What was needed was a set of intellectual tools with which teachers could evaluate the instruction they provided.

The gap in average mathematics scores between white and black students was 6 points at the beginning of kindergarten and 13 points in the spring of third grade; the science score gap was 5 points at the beginning of first grade and 9 points by the spring of third grade. The major in Computer Science enables a student to develop an understanding of the theory and practice of computing within the context of a liberal arts and sciences education. In addition to computer programming, majors in computer science study computer languages, logic, data structures, and applications of computing.

Quality of higher education is a dynamic category that involves a need for constant improvement of all the processes and their outcomes. It is a guiding force of the overall social development, a force that instigates national economic development and functions as a base for successful individual careers. Learning in museums and science centers takes place in a wider world context which begins with the learner’s prior experience, takes in the interactive opportunities and—very importantly—the related programming activities provided by the center. Teachers as well as students learn from this process.
