Education In Science

The Education Encyclopedia is a resource for professional educators as well as students in an education program. At the middle school level, in 2011, 75% of mathematics teachers in low-poverty schools had in-field degrees, compared with 63% of teachers at high-poverty schools. Research and evidence will sit at the heart of good teaching practice. By providing compelling educational research, we’ll influence education policy and make sure that evidence is used to support change and improve teaching and learning.

Together with Dr. Jamie Shuda, Steve Farber created a Science Outreach Program, Project BioEYES, that incorporates life science and laboratory education using zebrafish. The outreach program has two main components: educating teachers through hands-on training and tours of our zebrafish facility, and bringing the zebrafish to K-12th grade classrooms for hands-on experiments. The program teaches students about science literacy, genetics, the experimental process, and the cardiovascular system through the use of live zebrafish.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. To assure the vitality and continued productivity of the research enterprise, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) provides leadership in training the next generation of scientists, in enhancing the diversity of the scientific workforce and in developing research capacities throughout the country. Additional opportunities are available through the NIH Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs.

After Year 1, you will specialize in the more advanced study of biology, and either chemistry OR physics OR agricultural science. Throughout the four years, there is a strong emphasis on acquiring practical scientific skills through laboratory work, field work and assignments. In your final year, you will select a research topic. This will develop your skills in analysis, problem-solving and scientific writing.

Children at the 100 pilot preschools will have access to four play-based ELSA apps, aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework The apps encourage learning beyond the screen through active, child-centred experiences that introduce STEM practices, such as exploring location, patterns and problem solving. Journal of Science Education and Technology -Publishes a broad range of papers covering theory and practice in order to facilitate future efforts of individuals and groups involved in the field.
