About this journal. A major problem that has befallen science education in Australia over the last decade is a falling interest in science. Fewer year 10 students are choosing to study science for year 11, which is problematic as these are the years where students form attitudes to pursue science careers. 30 This issue is not unique in Australia, but is happening in countries all over the world.
Teaching Science is the flagship journal of the Australian Science Teachers Association. It aims to promote the teaching of science in all Australian schools, with a focus on classroom practices, and contribute to the professional development of teachers of science. Average scores on 2015 NAEP mathematics and science assessments for fourth, eighth, and twelfth grade students who were eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (an indicator of socioeconomic status) were 23 to 29 points lower than the scores of their peers who were not eligible for the program.
Section 1, Teaching, consists of five chapters stressing not only how digital projects have broadened our knowledge of the classics, but also how they have recast the role of students and other non-experts from being more or less passive recipients of that knowledge from their teachers into one in which they can now be part of the resource building process.
To achieve its goals, Science & Education fosters collaboration among scientists, mathematicians, historians, philosophers, cognitive psychologists, sociologists, science and mathematics educators, and school and college teachers. Frontier Research and Current Debates in STEM Education: This module provides an opportunity to interact with frontier research being carried out in the university as well as the most pressing topics and concerns that STEM education faces nationally and internationally (where “STEM” is science, technology, engineering and maths).
