The Journal of Technology and Science Education (JOTSE) has been created as a contribution to the development and improvement of scientific and technological education by constituting a common space to share experiences to all those who, somehow, are involved in the teaching and learning processes of engineering studies, in all modalities. If you obtained a non-Belgian Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences, Pedagogical Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences or Academic Teacher Education, your file will be evaluated by the Admission Board. The Board will take into account your educational expertise and academic proficiency. Depending on your background, the Board might recommend you to register for optional courses, such as Statistics, Diversity and inclusion in educational settings” and Facilitation of learning and coaching”. Therefore, the department advises you to demonstrate your academic writing competence (cf. formal writing, APA guidelines) in your motivation letter and to make your educational background knowledge (cf. obtained credits or work experience) explicit.
Science has become an important component in the K-12 curriculum in American schools-but less so than reading and mathematics. At the end of the twentieth century reading and mathematics received more attention, government support, and focus for testing. It was assumed that reading and mathematics must be mastered first and that these skills were essential before the study of science and social studies. Science is often not taught daily in elementary schools, does not receive major attention in middle schools, and is often organized around disciplines that emphasize college preparation in high schools.
At the Department of Education, we share the President’s commitment to supporting and improving STEM education. Ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities in STEM subjects is a priority, demonstrated by the fact that dozens of federal programs have made teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering, and math a critical component of competitiveness for grant funding. Just this year, for the very first time, the Department announced that its Ready-to-Learn Television grant competition would include a priority to promote the development of television and digital media focused on science.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – US2020, a nationwide network of more than 350 organizations to advance the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, chose the DC STEM Network as one of 15 finalists for the STEM Coalition Challenge. Ninety-two partner networks, working to advance STEM mentoring and learning to underrepresented students, competed. The finalists will compete for $1-million in resources to implement their innovative approaches to STEM teaching and learning.
