College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado provides excellence in teacher education, counseling, technology and psychology, at the undergraduate and graduate level. In 2016, more than two-thirds of school district technology administrators indicated that all the schools in their district fully met the Federal Communication Commission’s Internet bandwidth recommendations for public schools, up from 19% in 2012. A democracy demands that its citizens make personal and community decisions about issues in which scientific information plays a fundamental role, and they hence need a knowledge of science as well as an understanding of scientific methodology.
The Educational Science and Technology programme focuses on the design and evaluation of teaching and learning programmes in schools and organizations. The scope is wide: from the instruction of young children in primary school to developing interactive materials for vocational education, and from assessing the quality of schooling and school performance to talent and leadership development, and in-company re-training.
The Mathematics Educator strives to provide a forum for collaboration of mathematics educators at varying levels of professional experience. Its purpose is to promote the interchange of ideas among the mathematics education community, locally, nationally, and internationally and to present a variety of viewpoints on a broad spectrum of issues related to mathematics education.
If you obtained a non-Belgian Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences, Pedagogical Sciences, Psychology, Social SciencesÂ or Academic Teacher Education, your file will be evaluated by the Admission Board. The Board will take into account your educational expertise and academic proficiency. Depending on your background, the Board might recommend you to register for optional courses, such as Statistics,Â Diversity and inclusion in educational settingsâ€ and Facilitation of learning and coachingâ€. Therefore, the department advises you to demonstrate your academic writing competence (cf. formal writing, APA guidelines) in your motivation letter and to make your educational background knowledge (cf. obtained credits or work experience) explicit.
Carey, 1985; Chi, Feltovich, and Glaser, 1981; Goswami and Brown, 1989; see also the discussion in Chapter 5 ). Not surprisingly, both children’s and adults’ scientific reasoning tends to be strongest in domains in which their knowledge is strongest. Therefore, if the goal is to advance the leading edge of children’s scientific reasoning, their instruction needs to be grounded in contexts that also build on their relatively robust understanding of content. There is also mounting evidence that knowledge of scientific explanations of the natural world is advanced through generating and evaluating scientific evidence. For example, instruction designed to engage students in model-based reasoning advances their conceptual understanding of natural phenomena (see, for example, Brown and Clement, 1989; Lehrer et al., 2001; Stewart, Cartier, and Passmore, 2005; White, 1993; Wiser and Amin, 2001; see also the discussions in Chapter 4 and Chapter 9 ).
